I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S MORTAR

The surface material used in these artworks is mortar. A mixture that is roughly 80 % building sand and 20 % cement. It is a material that Chris works with occasionally when helping his dad on the building site. As an artist, however, Chris has worked with used mortar, the remnants of mortar that is usually thrown away. He has built the mortar back up as the main structural ground and has tested the physical property of the material by putting it through a variety of experimental processes. This creates a new sense of identity, life, and purpose as a work of art.
