ABOUT
Chris Horner is a British artist who lives and works in Alton, Hampshire and London. As an artist, his main concern is challenging people to see the possibilities in beauty through pre-used building materials where others see functionality.
As well as being a practising artist, Chris supports and assists his dad in the building trade. An appealing aspect of working on the building site is the use and range of building materials. He is constantly thinking about the potential of a building material and how he might incorporate it into an artwork.
When Chris is in his studio, his actions are based on a combination of rules and spontaneity, inspiring a shift in himself and the work he carries out. One minute, he is in the mode of a builder where he must follow meticulous and calculated actions. The next minute, he is free-flowing, integrating random actions to the materials that he is working with. Each building material, art supply and method used within his working process has the ability to morph and reform into a new component, creating an ever-changing event inspired by artist, action, chance and process.
Chris received the JPES Partnership Art Prize at The London Group Open 2019 and was elected by The London Group Membership Committee to become a member in 2020.
